Goodbye Teddy Bear Grandma

Today we lost Carl's Grandma Deetz, or as Lily liked to call her, the teddy bear grandma (due to a trunk of bears that she kept in her hallway).  We and all those who loved her have been dreading this day since this past fall when she received the diagnosis of lung cancer.  I suppose what makes life so special and so very precious is that it is finite.  Saying goodbye is never easy.  However, there is some comfort in knowing that someone as good as she was, was able to experience what so many wish for...a long, full and active life filled with trips and travels both near and far; strong, loving connections with friends and family; and an appreciation for simple pleasures as well as the finer things in life.   She had such an easy way about her, always making those around her feel comfortable and welcome.  Yet, there was never any doubt that she was one cool, classy lady.  Probably the thing I loved best was her love for Oscar.  She knew, and everyone else knew, that she was married to the love of her life.  When he died, she commented that there just wasn't enough time together.  And truly, how could there ever be enough time with the one you love?  And so it seems with Carl's Grandma.  Despite a long, full life, it just wasn't enough time for us.  Goodbye, teddy bear grandma.  You will be forever missed.
