Because it's the details that make life beautiful...
Let's see. These days Lily has been keeping busy with acting classes that she started last Tuesday (thanks to Grandpa Deetz). She's been to two classes so far and really seems to enjoy them. It is the only class she has taken that she really looks forward to. We decided to try different classes with Lily to see what really interests her before committing to any one class on a more serious or long-term basis. So far, she seemed to enjoy dancing and gymnastics. Swimming not so much. I think that acting class is the winner so far. She also asks (almost on a daily basis) if she can take horseback riding lessons. This is probably the only activity that scares me to death. I want her to pursue her interests, but horseback riding can be so dangerous. We explained that she would have to learn how to take care of a horse before ever riding one, but she is just so committed it. Regardless, this is something that is going to take some serious consideration and probably won't happen for a long time.
Lily is playful as ever. She has decided that princesses wear dress every day so she MUST wear either a dress or skirt every day. Sigh. She has also entertained us with some funny sayings lately. While practicing writing "a" yesterday, she commanded William to "Watch the master at work, baby". Later that night, she was riding her bike around the house and said to me, "Excuse me, amigo. That means friend in Spanish". Okay. I have admit something here. Before actually having a preschooler, I was so against kids watching tv, but I am truly amazed at what she has picked up through television programs. I know that she acquires vocabulary rather easily, but I credit television programs for some of her more sophisticated words. She informed me that Toot & Puddle taught her the word "amigo". And while I still don't encourage watching it too much, I would say that I value some time watching tv (especially PBS) programming. Once again, my idea of good parenting was changed by actually having children.
Oh my big girl. Here Lily is in her new booster seat. She can now unbuckle the seatbelt, get out of her booster seat, open the door, and get out of the car on her own. This is still unreal to me.
We've decided that William may be the sweetest baby boy ever, that is, besides my brother who according to my mother was a perfect angel as a baby. Nevertheless, William runs a close second. He smiles all the time which I just love. He has laughed a couple of times, but it is a rarity right now. Hopefully, he'll get more giggly in the next few weeks.
William is still Mr. Droolie but no teeth just yet. I may have been premature in my diagnosis, but he sure does have all the symptoms of teething! William also loves to blow raspberries while he's jabbering away, so in general, we see lots of saliva from this little guy.
William loves to be held and prefers to be able to see the world. He also loves the t.v. That little stinker will strain to see it all the time (particularly fun while trying to nurse). I don't think Lily noticed the t.v. until well into her twos so this presents a new challenge for us. William also enjoys looking at the black and white baby face we have hanging above his changing area. He coos and smiles at it just like Lily did as a baby. Other loves include his mobile, swing, and pictures hanging in the car, all enjoyed in small doses.
Our little koala. William is still a cuddler and is now using his hands to grab onto things he wants. He can grab toys and bring them to his mouth, and in general, is just fascinated by his hands. He also can now get a good handful of hair - not so much fun.
William is a champ when it comes to head control. We never got a Bumbo with Lily, but I'd like to get one for William. He so enjoys being able to take in his environment, and I think Lily would enjoy being able to play with him in an upright position. Also, it kind of naturally builds in space for William so Lily can't get in his face so much. I'm actually looking forward to being able to get out the exersaucer as well, but we're going to wait a little bit on that. After William got up at 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 am (by far his worst night), I wasn't quite sure what the day would hold for us. However, Lily decided that we should get married today. So she made a lovely spread, and we danced the afternoon away. These are the days that make it all worth it. (William was the Queen sitting in his chair, by the way.)
The temperatures during the first week of January did not get above freezing so we planned some indoor activities. Here we are on our way to the zoo's indoor playroom.
We met Jack and Margo (not pictured) at the zoo. It was lots of fun, and even better, no one was there because of the Arctic temps!
On Wednesday we met our playgroup at a superfun playroom where all the kids enjoyed playing with the elaborate train set-up and enjoyed yummy pizza and cookies for lunch. (Great event, Molly!)
Thanks, Carolyn for the super-cute shirt. It served as the source of inspiration for our NYE party theme! So maybe I took a few liberties with the conversation between William and I that I posted earlier. Below is an example of our actual interactions....posted mainly for our distant relatives that don't get to enjoy William's coos on a more regular basis. We could not have asked for a more sweet, happy, content, interactive, cuddly little boy!
Sara and I show off our pb&j mini sandwiches with jelly peace signs and ying yangs piped on top of the bread. Messy, but I can't resist tying the food into the theme. This year our theme was Peace and Harmony in 2010.
Julien thinks the food offerings represent balance quite well.
